An avid explorer of sounds both new and old, James Quilliam’s musical output is defined by a balanced quota of unassuming and surprising textures. Fuelled by an unrelenting passion for collecting and playing music, his extensive music library is a testament to his ability for creating and riding the energy of a crowd.

Despite living in Spain, he always kept his finger firmly on the pulse of the UK underground scene, where he cites dubstep innovators, Skream and Benga, as the earliest influences to shape his musical taste. Bringing about a wide-ranging sensibility, James doesn’t think of music in genres, but instead as energy levels. Equipped with a natural affinity for everything from disco to breakbeat, acid to electro and hip-hop to dub, James’ broad sound palette has been heavily shaped by such UK tastemakers as Jackmaster, Ben UFO, Paul Woolford, Midland, Joy Orbison and George FitzGerald.

In 2014, James returned to the UK to study at university in Bournemouth where he won a local DJ competition. He was then rewarded with the opportunity to play in front of 3,000 people at The Block Party festival supporting such heavyweights as The Martinez Brothers, Alexis Raphael, wAFF, Shadow Child and more.

Just one week later, James took his craft to the White Isle of Ibiza for the first time. Such intuition and persistence were then repaid in kind with a two-season poolside residency at Ibiza Rocks Hotel, performing at pre-parties for We Love Space and Hedkandi. Further establishing his name, James was privileged enough to perform at Stormzy’s own #Merky Festival at Ibiza Rocks in both 2018 and 2019.
